With “Keep it Running”, REACT is launching its own pilot project for 2027: we are showing how existing vehicles can keep racing in the future – with solutions that are available today, fewer fossil resources and more independence. For everyone who lives motorsport.
A historic race car as a rolling real-world lab
Our demonstrator is a BMW 325 Challenge (E30), built in 1987, competing in historic touring car racing. The guiding question: how far can we get towards fossil-independent and affordable mobility – without losing the character of the car? We develop, test and evaluate practical measures under real racing conditions and will make the results available to grassroots motorsport.

- Sustainability: less CO₂ and lower consumption of fossil resources through intelligent solutions.
- Resilience: keeping mobility alive – even if oil and gas are no longer available without restriction.
- Affordability: practical solutions that “normal” racers can afford as well.
The experiment
We measure, we compare, and we make it transparent: a reference race weekend in conventional operation versus Demonstrator V1 with sustainable and resilient measures that are easy to implement – sustainable fuel, sustainable fluids, optimised tyre use, preserving parts instead of replacing them, smarter energy in the paddock and improved transport.
For every race weekend we record fuel, fluids, parts and wear, transport and accommodation, paddock energy and race kilometres – and report CO₂ emissions, costs, performance and practicality per event.
Roadmap
- Q1 2026: project start, partner acquisition, reference weekend measurements
- Q1 2027: technical implementation, tests and optimisation
- Q2–Q4 2027: 3 to 5 race events
- Q4 2027: evaluation of the results and publication of a practical guide
